FOR GROUP STUDIES UPDATE FALL
2006
Greetings!
Fall is finally here, along with our Local Training and October
Weekend Training programs.
Please read on for our news.
CGS Modern Group Workshop for 50 Social Workers and
Psychologists
At
the end of June, CGS offered
a half-day training program
for 50 psychologists
and social workers, who are
members of the clinical
services staff of the Bureau
of Non-Public School Services,
a division of the Department
of Education. Senior faculty
member, Janet Resnick, and
her team including Chris Dolin
and Patti Cox facilitated
the training program. The participants
were given a lively presentation
about Modern Group process
and its application in working
with school age youngsters
in the classroom, on the playground
and in team sports. Following
this presentation, the participants
moved into breakout sessions
for an experiential process,
followed up with a Q&A
and discussion. It was a testament
to the dedication of the participants
that they volunteered an extra
hour of their workday at the
end of the school year to
participate in a program to
learn about group process.
CGS
is delighted at the success
of this presentation and looks
forward to building its outreach
and agency training programs.

Board
News
The
Board of Directors has worked
diligently to reduce the deficit
and is pleased to offer very
optimistic news. It is expected
that in this fiscal year,
we will achieve a balanced
budget for the first time
in many years. As many of
you know, we have struggled
and clawed our way out from
under a mammoth deficit to
get to this point. We thank
all who have donated and count
on everyone to keep the faith
and to contribute towards
our continued growth.
Board
Changes
Two
long time dedicated Board
members have resigned in recent
months. Penny Leiberman was
responsible for our successful
Comedy Night fund raiser last
spring and she was the designer
of our logo. Penny offered
many valuable and creative
ideas to our organization.
Alice Brown, long time Board
Secretary resigned in June.
In addition to her board position,
Alice was a co-director of the Weekend Training Program,
(nee Offsite Program). Alice
remains actve in CGS as part
of the local and WTP faculties.
Their shoes will be hard to
fill and we wish them both
luck and know we can count
on their continued suppor
of our activities and programs.
The
position of Secretary is now
being aptly filled by Sally
Henry. Sally has been a member
of the Board for a number
of years and we know she will
do a top-notch job. The Board
welcomes a new member: Wilma
Selenfriend joined in June.
Wilma has many years working
with Modern Group Process
and is a graduate of our local
program.
October
2006 Weekend Training Program
New Venue
CGS
is experimenting with a new
venue for its October Weekend
Training Program, which meets
the 20-22. This program meets
three times a year and includes
national, international and
local area students, who participate
in intensive weekend training
in Modern Group process. For
the upcoming weekend we will
be meeting at the Warwick
Hotel in the heart of Midtown
Manhattan. This is the first
time the program will be held
at the Warwick, where the upscale meeting room accommodations
are more spacious and comfortable
for our growing program.
The weekend faculty features
process group leader, Michael
Brook, workshop leaders, Lucy
Holmes and Lena Furgeri, supervision
leader, Ronnie Levine and
training group leader, Louis
Ormont. Word of mouth about
this program continues to
spread enthusiastic reviews.
