UPDATE WINTER 2006

Greetings!

2006 is looking promising for CGS. Please read on...

Weekend Training Program
Once again, we held a successful Weekend Training Program, January 27-29. The topic, "Resolving Transference and Termination Issues" drew 17 new and returning students. The weekend featured process group leader Ellen Wright, workshop leaders Robert Weinstein and Lena Furgeri, supervision leader Myrna Kortlander and training group leaders Louis Ormont and Joan Ormont. The next weekend, "The Essence of Modern Group" will be held May 5-7, 2006. You may download a registration form here.

Local Program
Our Local Training Program kicked off on February 10, 2006 with a wonderful group of returning students.

We'll be holding Summer Workshops in June and July. Look for updates in our newsletter and on our site about workshops and registration.

2006 AGPA Conference

This year's conference, "Bridging Differences: Healing a House Divided", was held in San Francisco on February 20-25. CGS was well represented with conference presenters including faculty members Lena Furgeri and Phyllis Cohen, former faculty Toby Chuah and Elliot Zeisel, and CGS graduates Jan Morris and Gil Spielberg. Look for our ad in the program book.

Town Meeting

15 brave souls trudged through the snow to attend our Town Meeting on Sunday, February 12, 2006. They were rewarded with delicious food and wonderful company. Representatives from the board of directors, alumni, students and faculty were present.

In addition to the enjoyment of the festivities, Town Meeting attendees discussed the vision of the Center in moving forward. The plans are to continue our current training programs and to promote our Staff Development and Outreach programs. This will most likely require additional belt tightening measures but the Board is committed to remaining fiscally responsible during this time. Several good ideas about promoting our programs emerged from this important event. One exciting suggestion was to offer our courses at a reduced fee to new graduates. CGS faculty and other volunteers will be making a targeted effort to promote our programs in the graduate schools. Plans are also in the works to meet with a grant writer to explore this avenue. Annual Appeal

We thank those of you who have contributed generously financially, with your time or in sponsoring events. As a not-for-profit organization, we benefit from everyone's efforts. In this fiscal year (July-June), the Group Center has so far raised close to $10,000 in cash donations. This is significantly more than our efforts of last year, which yielded $3000 but a far cry from the $30-40,000 needed to maintain our operating expenses and support services including the expense of the office and full time staffing. Please consider having your company or corporation donate or match funds in order for us to provide our vital work to our students and our community.

Contributions large and small are welcome
